Mold
Mold is a type of fungus that grows in moist environments and can cause damage to surfaces, as well as potential health problems for humans and animals. Mold spores are present in the air and can be found both indoors and outdoors. When conditions are right, such as high humidity, moisture, and organic material to feed on, mold can grow and reproduce quickly. There are many different types of mold, but some of the most common include black mold, green mold, and white mold. Mold can grow on a variety of surfaces, including wood, drywall, carpet, and fabrics. In addition to causing damage to surfaces, mold can also cause health problems for people who are exposed to it. Exposure to mold can cause allergy-like symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, and eye irritation. In some cases, exposure to mold can cause more severe health problems such as respiratory infections, asthma attacks, and even neurological problems.
MicroPlastics
A significant source of microplastics in tap water is through the use of microbeads in personal care products, such as toothpaste, facial scrubs, and shower gels. These microbeads are too small to be filtered out by wastewater treatment facilities, and they end up in rivers, lakes, and oceans. From there, they can be carried by water currents and end up in the tap water. The link between microplastics and cancer is currently being studied, but there is not enough evidence to establish a definitive link. Some studies have suggested that certain types of microplastics, such as those that contain certain types of plasticizers or flame retardants, may have the potential to cause cancer. Microplastics can absorb toxins from the environment, such as heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) which are known to be carcinogenic, and can be harmful to human health if ingested or inhaled. Additionally, studies have shown that some microplastics contain harmful chemicals that can leach out when in contact with human cells, potentially leading to negative effects on human health. The long-term health effects of consuming microplastics are not yet known, but it is a concern that needs to be addressed.
Legionella is a type of bacteria that can cause a serious lung infection known as Legionnaires' disease through the inhalation of mist vapor and ingestion. Any building or structure with a water system such as cooling towers, spas, refrigerator water supply and tap water can contain the deadly bacteria. The bacteria are found naturally in freshwater environments and can infect humans through the inhalation of mist, vapor or contaminated with the bacteria. The disease can be severe, and in some cases, can lead to death, particularly in older adults or those with weakened immune systems. It can also cause a milder infection called Pontiac fever. The bacteria can also spread to the community through aerosolized water droplets from cooling towers or other sources, increasing the risk of exposure to large numbers of people.
